Using social media to spice up your SEO campaigns

There is no stopping social media; that is for sure. This is the biggest thing on the internet today.
Ever since Facebook and Twitter became hits, social media has been the real deal.

Of course there were other platforms like MySpace which existed before that. Social media is very old and clearly it is here to stay. You cannot do without social media if you are in business today. It is like trying to survive without internet.
Everything seems to be done online today in a bid to migrate to the fully digital world. When you start your own business, social media will be of great help when it comes to advertising.

Why do you advertise?
All businesses do some advertising of sorts. Even the mere telling someone that you run a business is an advertisement. The only difference here is that it does not reach out to as many people as advertising on TV or radio would.

The main reason for advertising is to let people know the products that you have available and the details concerning those products. Once you have filled them in, you will be advertising to remind them of the products that you have available for purchase.

Essentially, you want to let people know that you exist and how they can find you. However, did you know that people can find you even if you do not really do serious advertising?

This is where search engine optimization (SEO) comes into the equation. SEO is the reason why some businesses are successful and others are struggling to stay afloat. It goes without saying that being found on the first page of Google search results is very helpful.

Get to the top fast
When people search for things on Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines, they check the results on the first page. These are the most relevant results. These are the most authoritative results. These are the results that they can trust. Rarely will people check the second page and the others that follow. Few people have the patience to do that. It therefore pays to be on page one of a Bing or Google search. Why is this so?

For starters, the traffic that will be directed towards you website will be so much more. Since people are able to find you and you have what they are looking for, they will visit your site. Increasing the traffic to your website simply increases the exposure that your products and services will be getting. Once people know that you are in existence, there is no way of ‘unknowing’ that.

Secondly, if you are at the top, people believe that you have the best products and services that are relevant to what they are looking for.
In other words, the search engines increase the reliability of products. Prospective customers will view your site as a source of getting exactly what they are looking for. This is why you should strive to make sure that you get to the top and get there fast. Social media can be of great help here thus you should consult an SEO expert.

Using social media to get there

There is a common assumption that social media is just for entertainment, sharing pictures and connecting with friends.
Your business as an entity can also connect with its friends (read as clients and prospective clients). All that you need to do is create a page for your product on social media.

The other alternative is to use your account to market your products. Post links that connect to your website so as to increase the traffic to your site. Basically, by increasing traffic to your site you improve your ranking on the search engines. Also by increasing your ranking you increase traffic. It is a two-way street.

The second thing that you can do is to create a large base of followers for your business on social media. One of the biggest companies in East Africa is Safaricom. This company has a humongous follower base on Twitter. Whenever they set up a campaign, it hit the first page of Google instantly. This could be you too.

Thirdly, follow the influencers in your industry. These are the personalities who are renowned for their expertise in the business. Another company that has done this is West Africa’s Airtel. The company follows all the finest business gurus in telecommunications from around the world. These people are followed by thousands of people and thus they have the prospective clients you are looking for. A single post from them will get your product and website out to the world.

Conclusion
To use social media is an integral part in all SEO campaigns. You want to get to the top of the search engine results pages for your niche, social media is a powerful tool that you can employ for this particular purpose. With the help of an SEO practitioner, you can be sure that you will be on your way to great success.

  3. This article is very helpful, and true. The reason social media is integral to SEO is because, if done properly, it 1) sends signals for credibility to the search engines, and 2) creates shared, viral content that leads to valuable backlinks.
