Five Ways to Increase Traffic to Your Website

A very frequently asked question is “how to increase traffic to a website“.

Some website owners are desperate, because not generating traffic to your website means you won’t get any visitors and without visitors, your site is just a money destroyer.

So let’s do something about that. Listed below are five easy ways to increase the traffic to your website.

increase traffic to your website

Provide High Value Content
That’s the basic element to increase traffic. If you don’t provide value on your site, visitors may come, but never return. And they will tell 10 others.
The more value you offer to your visitors, the more visitors you will gain over time as they will tell 1 or 2 friends about you.

This already implies that this strategy will NOT increase traffic overnight. This one is a long term process. On the positive side great value will definitely put you in good position for the long run.

Search engine optimization
SEO is a basic traffic generator. If you design your website well and use the right strategies, this option to generate traffic is free and effortless. Many website owners leave money on the table on this issue by making seo mistakes.

You need to realize that search engine optimization is another long term process. You therefor need to be committed to for a long period of time, which of course requires … patience!

You can get a lot of help from the Google checker here.

Article Submission
Writing high quality, enticing and informative articles that will attract readership is key using this internet marketing strategy. But you also should try to target popular keywords for an optimal SEO effect. If your article is interesting enough, reader will click your resource link to visit your landing page.
That implies your resource box is a crucial part of your article. Don’t make any mistakes here. See if you can pass this Article Marketing quiz.

Quite often article authors forget, that actual live human beings will read those articles while searching for valuable information. If they can’t get it from you, they will go somewhere else. If you do provide them that information then they are much more likely to go to your site and become an actual customer.

Submit it to as many article directories as possible, but at least

Buy clicks
Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is the fastest way to increase traffic to your website. It’s ideal to test keywords and conversions and offers great data about searches that are performed.

Google Adwords is one of the most popular PPC programs and is quick and (fairly) easy to use.

Google leads the top PPC sites and controls about 74% of all searches in the US. Yahoo covers about 11% of the market share and MSN 9%. All the other search engines combined have the remaining part of 6%.
If you have some dollars to spend, give PPC a try.

Participate In Forums
To get your website traffic from forums is easy.
Find one or two popular forums in your market, like the Warrior forum in Internet marketing, and register. Fill in your profile and put your website in your signature. Participate in the discussions and be helpful.
The fastest way to get banned from a forum is to blatantly advertise your site. Never do this.
You will need to earn respect in these forums by contributing positively. Be active and you may also gain some high pagerank backlinks.

Continuous marketing and promotion is a great way to increase traffic to your website. Develop a plan using these tips and stick to it.

These are all great tips. As someone who works in SEO, I would say that concentrating on SEO techniques is the best way to get traffic to your site. Article submissions are very important, and getting them to more than the just the top 5 article sites is great too. Start by putting great content on your site, then get the link to your site out to as many places on the net as possible to link back. This is definitely the best strategy, but takes time. Remember to be patient.

Not sure about the article submission. Let’s just say it’s a cheap way to get backlinks.

The participate in forums is a great tip. Each post will generate a link! I’m sure going to use it.

but provide quality content is the most important one, without this your site won’t get lots of traffic ever.

I sort of combine a few of your strategies. I launch a site, and then I use a PPC campaign for traffic until I execute my SEO campaign. Once my SEO campaign gets my page some traffic, I back out of the PPC. This way my pages are seeing traffic from the day they are created.

Good post – btw, nice blog layout. Kudos.

Content, content, content. Even if you are a business, add a blog page and add a couple of blogs per week. Your site will get crawled regularly, you’ll build backlinks, and before you know it you’ll have an index of dozens articles that can bring you traffic from the search engines.

I disagree agree Eric (comment above). Some kind of website cannot count on content. Take a image hosting site like mine. How can I create content ? It’s impossible. It’s just pictures. So you have few sentences of presentation in the homepage. And you have to promote these few keywords. This is harsh task. So rather than “content, content, content” I would say “backlinks, backlinks, backlinks”.

Luc, NOTHING is keeping you from adding valuable content on how to use images properly (seo-wise), how to create good images (and get more customers for your service) and listing stats of successful images. Just to name a few ideas. Think outside your box.

Yeah, content still is a king! Also, one way I use to get traffic from searh engines is to find long-tail keywords and write valuable content around those keywords. Thanks for sharing good tips!

I’ve had success using images for SEO. My previous employer was a packaging company that spent lots of money for a professional photographer for their print catalog.

Before I got there they weren’t using the old photos from the catalogs.

I started posting the old photos to Flickr, including a brief description under the non-commercial attribution license. I also requested a link if people used these across the web.

We got quite a few backlinks with this tactic. Maybe it will work in your case.
