Hey Case, I have been on the fence with 2.7 but after watching your video I am going to upgrade. I hope I dont have any issues with my themes though! can you downgrade back down to 2.6?

Gotta say that we love WordPress because it allows us to create an easy system for visitors to leave advice from strangers and to geotag their message as well (using the geo mashup plugin).

We were a little hesitant to upgrade, but 2.7 blew us away. It's eliminated the need for some of the plugins that we used. Great dashboard that gets you to where you need to go in 1 click, you can search for new plugins and upload them directly into your blog, and you can automatically upgrade to future versions of WordPress.

The only thing missing for us was a theme uploader, so we're still using a plugin to that.

By the way, found you through Court's D-List (http://courtneytuttle.com/blogs-that-follow/). Appreciate your philosophy about dofollow.

It's looking extremely good with round corners and nice graphics.

They've made the interface faster and you can drag and drop the things you use the most at the top for easy access.

You can also select between 4 different sizes when you insert images into posts (in previous versions you had 3 options) and it's extremely easy to navigate. I didn't like the change they did with the menu in version 2.6, but this change is fantastic. Now you have all your options in the left hand menu and you can expand menu options to select a sub menu instead of first clicking on the menu and after that the sub menu option.

Under the tools menu there's an option where you can upgrade your wordpress installation. I guess they've made this to make it easier to upgrade and reinstall wordpress (I can't complain about upgrading WP manually since that's quite easy too). I'm actually looking forward to next version so I can test the automatic upgrade function :D I think this is the first time I want to upgrade to the latest version.

If you haven't upgrade you should do so because I think you will enjoy the latest version you too.

Even minor updates are important when they solve a security hole. Backing up is easy with the <a href="http://lesterchan.net/portfolio/programming/php/" rel="nofollow">WP-DBManager</a> plugin -and, for security reasons, I do that every day!-, so there really are no arguments against upgrading to the next version.

I have found it difficult to keep pace with new releases by Wordpress. Whilst I fully support wordpress as the leading blog software and see it as powerful SEO tool, I think I would prefer if releases were clubbed together and less infrequent. Often I have found very minor updates in subsequent versions and it does not justify going through the update process all the time. Upgrades are easy but if you have a large enough blog, you nevertheless need to backup the database and take all necessary precautions prior to each upgrade.

No, 2.7 is stable. It may be your theme. Switch to another one and see if it works better.

Well i was very much disappointed with the new version. I upgraded from version 2.6.3 to 2.7. What was the result? Yes i got a new interface and all. the problems i faced was

1. No way to switch between html and normal view
2. No way to preview the post before it was published
3. none of my plugins worked.
4. It was slower than a snail. I tried installing gears but no use.

So i was in a dilemma. Went to the wordpress forums many a times, tried the tips from users but to no use. So i finally decided to downgrade. but even after downgrade, i still have the problem of not being to see the post in view mode.

my thoughts are that it was more of a beta version than the so called STABLE release.

I've been putting off upgrading wordpress- but the automatic updates sounds great. It would fantastic if this was my last manual wordpress upgrade. Hopefully it goes smoothly...

I was reluctant to 2.7 as I thought it's not that important. But after seeing your review, I upgraded my WP right away and it rocks. Thanks.

That's awesome. I've struggled updating my blogs because of how my host doesn't have one click upgrades through Fantastico or Cpanel. Great plugin advice and I'll be updating my blog accordingly. I usually hold out also bc an upgrade requires HOURS of time! Thanks for saving me from spending that much time on my upgrade.

Thanks for the sneak peak at the dashboard. I have to admit that I'm not too involved in the community, I usually avoid updates like the plague until my plugins or themes stop working. But for the easy dashboard, I might just do it...

The best part about Wordpress 2.7 is now you can upgrade and install plugins right from the dashboard instead of having to upload it to your server and then activate it. It saves a ton of time. It's a must have!
