Funny story! Here in the U.S. many of the isp’s are outsourcing support and while the support folks speak english, often the accent is so thick that they’re hard to understand. The world is getting smaller every day.

I do agree that there are too many things in life that we took for granted. Can we carry out our daily life routine without the use of internet? I believe it is possible. Maybe a couple of days,but definitely not for weeks. We are just too dependant on internet for information.

I was on holiday in spain too this summer on the Costa Brava, and I actually managed 2 full weeks without internet. And the cell phones didn’t even make connection

I have just moved out to Lanzarote and it took me the best part of 4 months to fix all my internet troubles. I can’t even blame the language barrier because my wife is Spanish!

Then again, if you think getting internet access is hard, you should see how bad it is to get the TV sorted!

@Online marketing guy from romania : Sad to know your experience in India. But for us, we are used to this!! For anyone coming to India for a short visit, i recommend you to apply for any wimax connection. That would be better if you are planning to be in metros.

This is funny and… frustrating in the same time. I have been working in India for last two years, so you should have seen how it is to get an Internet connection there. Oh, they do understand English – a basic English of course – but enough to promise you that they will come on Monday. Which Monday – you will find out when they will come . One week after another calls and calls and you get an Internet connection at 1 or 2 months after you applied.
It was funny when I get a modem. They gave me the connection in the same day – amazing, but they cut it after 2 weeks because they could not find my address. Of course they did not explain me why they cut it; they kept telling me – in 2 hours it will work, in 2 hours it will work until I got mad. Until I asked an Indian friend to come with me and talk to them, nothing was solved.
Interesting cultures, isn’t it?

Free services are a pain in most cases. I am from India , and here we need to look for an ISP for each state as an ISP in one state wont have service in another state.

God, I hate when sh-t like this happens, it is so irritating, and since so many US corps are now using foreign tech support and this kind of irritation happens, when they have no clue what is really going on!
