Wondeful explanation :) some more useful tips at the of book domain. Your domain name should pertain somewhat to the business you are going to be running online and what your website is going to be all about.Try to stick to the point with your domain name. Spell things clearly and avoid too much alternate spelling, like spelling boys as boyz. A big mistake that many people make when selecting their domain name is to use their real name. While you may think www. johnsmith.com looks really cool, no one is going to know what the heck it is you do, except for maybe your mom.

I thought all of the 3 char domain names were spoken for, I once got excited about finding a 2 char name 'available' before I learned they were being retired from service when they expired.

A couple of of aids I recently encountered:

wordlab.com lots of word and phrase ideas for company names, etc.

lingzini.com a name finding aid that uses a different approach, a dictionary and thesaurus are included in it's set of fuction windows.

dot com domains are generally better accepted for business sites.
dot info names are considered second hand domains.
You can search for great domain names in expired domains or just buy one from a trader.

Gammie I had a similar problem. All the really good domains were taken and I too ended up with a .info site. I have doubts whether a .info is a good as a .com. I have never seen a very popular .info site, so I don't know if the search engines discriminate against them or .com is just that much more publicly "accepted" and popular. Assuming all the good premium domains are gone what is the next best option? Is it better to go with a short/keyworded off .com domain (.net, .org, .info) or to pick a mediocre to poor .com?

I had some problems in selecting good domain names for my company. But later on I got a good name. Do you have any idea in getting good premium domain names. I need one domain name for my new company but I am not getting what I need. What to do?
