Have you ever wondered if social networks harm your brains? Or, even worse, your children’s brain?

If not, it’s time to think about that, because these claims come from a well known neuroscientist.

Roman Sahakov came up with this remarkable story and decided to write today’s guest post about the topic.

Here’s Roman.
Enjoy!

A very remarkable scientist has confirmed that Social Networking sites can result in some changes in young users’ brains (and not only young ones).

Each day millions of Social activists log into their favorite Social Network and begin to get busy with chatting with people whom they even haven’t ever met.

Internet in general provides people with new and fresh information, enables them to communicate without having to go fare distances. These are indeed positive features of Social Networks.

But there exist a negative side as well.

It is an undeniable truth that a great deal of young people has lost the ability of communication if they do not see screens in front of their eyes. They have unlearned how to speak to a person face to face without typing anything.

I won’t discover a new America by saying that every single person realizes that danger however no one is moving a finger to change something for the better. They believe that it is not a problem but a result of technological development (they do not have the slightest notion about where this development will bring them).
Such changes are the best prerequisites for selfish and upset – minded generation.

When I talk of Social Networks I first and foremost speak about Facebook and Twitter since at present these are the most popular Social Networking sites with the most number of users worldwide.

Facebook has the power of affecting people’s morality especially those who spend most of their time in front of the computer (these are people from 15 – 30 year old).

It is a proven fact that websites as Facebook and Twitter have destructive impact on the emotional evolvement of young people’s brains.
Don’t forget that over 200 million users have accounts on these sites. They use them in order to keep in touch with their friends, share information together with some photos and videos and post instant messages about their ideas and thoughts.

I can remember myself registering on Facebook about two years ago. I signed up there as I had a relative living abroad so I wanted to make my communication with her easier.
But approximately 2 weeks later I realized that I was using Facebook not for its direct destination. I used to do everything but communicating with my relative. I remember the immense number of friend requests I was receiving per day and confirming them without exception. Some of Facebook’s users spend money on buying postcards for their friends.

Then I registered on Twitter.
Here was the same story with a few differences. Here I strived for (and still I am striving for) having huge quantity of Twitter followers. Some of my friends go even far. They buy Twitter followers in order to gain them much easier and faster.

You see how these “harmless” websites can become a real danger for your pockets.
So what I advise you is not to become Social Networks addict. Always keep in mind that their magnetism is so strong that drug addiction will simply seem a bad habit as compared to it.

If that is true, then how can we utilize these social media so that we can profit from their existence?

That’s a question David Offer of Facebook chat emoticons has an answer to.

In fact, he has 16 suggestions to use overlooked and underused social media marketing strategies.

I’ll let David explain in today’s guest post.

Social media marketing is vital to any business, or product promoter, that wishes to create brand recognition, large-scale promotion and word-of-mouth advertising.

There are many mainstream methods of social media and competition is fierce with costs increasing on a daily basis. Different strategies work for different products, but by adopting a widespread social media marketing strategy, a business can get the word out to many people, in a short space of time.

Here are 16 of the most underused and cost-effective social media marketing techniques. All offer huge publicity potential, low-competition and minimal financial outlay.

1. Crowdsourcing
This is a term used to describe utilizing a large (usually unpaid) group to come up with a solution to a problem, or brainstorm an idea.
With the emergence and popularity of social network sites, this strategy has become a wonderfully cost effective method for a business to pose a problem and ask the public to voice their opinions and suggest potential solutions. Not only is this free research, it announces to the masses that you are forward thinking, value consumer input and openly advertises your company brand and products.

2. Brand Monitoring
Services like ReputationDefender.com allow a business to see firsthand how they are viewed online by the general public. This is invaluable information when building brand recognition.
Other services that can be used to see what people really think of your company include: Buzzlogic and Radian6.

3. Topic-Related Forums
Otherwise known as Discussion Boards, these community-based talk groups can be an integral platform for communicating with potential clients. They are also great places for insight into the latest trends, market-based discussions, for informing people about your business and reinforcing your reputation as an industry expert.

4. Blogs
Blogs are nothing new but are still one of the most potent social media tactics available to any business.
Any serious business should always include a blog as part of their business strategy. A company blog is the ideal place to keep people informed of your latest developments, new products and industry know-how.
Blogs leave readers feeling involved and offer a real appeal to an otherwise faceless corporate entity. People like to have their say and quite often they will make suggestions that your best researchers would never have thought of on their own.

5. Online Video Sites
These sites, such as YouTube and Vimeo, attract huge audiences and informative videos can obtain millions of views. A great promotional video about a business, or product, can reach a target audience that will dwarf any contemporary TV advertisement by comparison.

6. Online Presentations
A rarely used resource is to make a presentation of a new product, like one you would show to a boardroom full of prospective clients, or shareholders.
These presentations can be broadcast via sites like: Scribd.com, AUTHORstream.com or SlideShow.net and can reach a huge member base that is already searching for this type of information – an ideal free resource to pitch your products to targeted viewers.

7. Get Your Ratings and Read Reviews
Like brand monitoring, this service allows a business to see how well they are perceived and read actual realistic reviews about their services and products. This is a great method for analyzing how any business development strategy is performing.
Check out GetSatisfaction or Yelp for honest public opinion.

8. Photo Sharing Sites
A commonly overlooked resource for promoting a business, or product – any publicity photos can be uploaded to these free picture-sharing sites.
People often search for free photos to use on blogs and other content and the more people that see pictures of your new brand, or product, the better. This is like having free photos emblazoned across the pages of popular magazines and periodicals and allows your promoters free access to your publicity photos – so no time wasted emailing them to every requester.
The most popular sites are Flickr.com and Photobucket.com.

9. Social Networks
Twitter and Facebook are already massively popular and well used. But not many businesses take advantage of the various applications available, like the online Facebook storefront Payvment.

Then there is Facebook Groups and Pages, where you can create business pages and promote yourself to the millions of daily users.

Twitter can be used to create a business-orientated profile and keep in touch, in real-time, with prospective clients – this shows that you are modern, approachable and is the modern day approach to customer service.

10. Create Your Own Widgets
Widgets and badges are everywhere. There are few blogs and websites that do not have the Twitter bird, the Facebook ‘Like This’ or the Google Buzz buttons easily accessible on their pages.

Now you can create your own personalized widgets on sites like SpringWidgets and WidgetBox. Having your own widget is great brand promotion and looks professional.

11. Aggregation
If you have numerous Web 2.0 and social media accounts, you can aggregate all the information and news into one feed that can be accessed by readers, in one useful all-encompassing feed.
Use a site such as: FriendFeed, Bloglines, Lifestream or Lijit and give readers all your latest news in one go.

12. Microblog
Microblog is an industry buzz word used to describe the emergence of sites, like Twitter, that only allow for small textual entries.

Blogs can be hard to maintain every day if you are struggling to write lengthy content. Most people will visit a blog once a week, but people are addicted to the real-time, short entry speed of Twitter and spend most days reading the constant updates.
Schedule Twitter messages to post every few hours and add snippets of news, industry information and upcoming product developments. Microblogging keeps you constantly visible and enhances brand recognition.

13. Wiki sites
Add your business or brand to a topic-related Wiki. These are online resources that are constantly referred to for information and advice. They are easier than leafing through an encyclopedia and a lot more topically relevant. There are many different Wiki’s for each market, topic or industry and they appear regularly in high search engine rankings. They are also great sources for quality backlinks. Check out Wikipedia.org, Citizendium.org, or AboutUs.org.

14. Podcasting
Start your own mini radio station and produce your own free radio advertising. A lot cheaper than mainstream radio adverts and these podcasts are downloaded, and streamed, by millions of digital radio and iPhone/iPod users every day.

15. Social Bookmarking Sites
Submit your best content, information and news to the popular social bookmarking sites like Digg, Propeller, Fark, Mixx, StumbleUpon, Reddit and Buzz. These submissions can be read by millions of users and voted on. If you submit quality content that captures the reader’s interest and received enough positive votes, the story can go viral and appear on other blogs and news sites. This can lead to a swarm of new visitors and a healthy amount of brand popularity.

16. Publish Content to PR and Archive Sites
If you have any new upcoming product releases, or if you are starting a new business, write a press release and submit it to one of the many online PR agencies such as: PRLog.com, PR.com and i-Newswire. Never overlook the advantage of posting content to other sources like Google Docs, ideaMarketers, Yahoo Articles and eHow – these sites archive your content and are often searched by people looking for quality information for research and journalism assignments.

All these different resources can seem like a mammoth amount of work, but they are just some of the options available to assist with business promotion and brand recognition. There is no need to use all these sources for every campaign; they are just useful conduits available to the social media marketer. The great thing about these platforms is that the majority are completely overlooked and offer any business some low competition alternatives to help stay ahead of your nearest rivals.

By D. Offer. Daniel leads a Facebook chat emoticons project entitled Emoinstaller. Emoinstaller is a software product that enables users to add Facebook emoticons easily to their Facebook account. Users have access to over 900 Facebook smileys once Emoinstaller is installed.

So far David’s suggestions.

Many (small business) people ask me “How does Facebook work“?

And “How can it be profitable for my business?”.

I’ll try to answer that question below from a business point of view.

Before explaining how Facebook works, let me ask you first:

Why are you on Facebook?

Or, if you aren’t yet, why would you join?

When you search for an answer on the Net, you’ll see that many reasons are given, but in my opinion there’s a growing trend in nowadays individualized society to express oneself as an individual in a group they create themselves!

More and more people like to be showcased on TV and on the Internet. They want to be heard.

That desire is mainly based on one of the most striking human characteristics:

people like to belong to a community!

only… a community they LIKE.
Social networks use that in their advantage.

So, to answer the question Why Facebook, there basically are three real reasons:

to build contacts and find lost ones,

to profile and express yourself for whatever reason or

to do business.

Pick any of these reasons and you can use the other 2 within it. And that’s easy to do on Facebook, because you can cross-communicate.

On his Facebook blog, Mark Zuckerberg says:

When we built Facebook in 2004, our goal was to create a richer, faster way for people to share information about what was happening around them. We thought that giving people better tools to communicate would help them better understand the world, which would then give them even greater power to change the world.

Emphasis is on ‘around them’.
You see, whenever YOU connect to someone on Facebook, by inviting her/him as a friend, THEY become part of your unique, personal newsfeed. You are able to read their messages and responses.
Thus you get feedback and new opinions from all Friends in your network, which on its turn invokes reactions from you and others.

It’s this newsfeed that makes Facebook a social network and simple ideas can spread like wildfire reaching a crowd in no time.

Are you beginning to see the answer to the question “How does Facebook work”?

The same applies to Facebook’s Fanpages. If you see one of your friends join an interesting fan page, you may want to join too. And that action may even invoke your friends to join. If that happens, you have a snowball effect.

That’s why Fanpages are popular amongst companies. Once the gets a lot of fans, they can update their page and their newsfeed spreads this message amongst all these fans.

Take a look at this one and notice the number people who like this page in the menu at the left!

See?

Now, I don’t say you can achieve results like this big company, but still this can be very interesting for your business, because…

…there’s a distinction between Friends and Fans in my opinion.

Friend can be REAL friends, but also any person who invites you to be a friend, even if you don’t know this person.
Even if you know the person that invites you very well, they may not be real friends. Great examples are parents who invite their children. Is this social family control? Don’t they see their children at home? Do the children want to accept?

Fans are a whole other breed. They’ve expressed their interest in the topic by becoming a fan. Voluntarily! Because they liked what they saw.

Seeing a friend become a fan therefore has a huge impact. And then the personal recommendation kicks in. People tend to buy faster if something is recommended by a friend.

That’s the answer to the question “How does Facebook work”!
Are you seeing possibilities here?

If you’re interested in how to create and use highly successful ads on Facebook, just sign up for my newsletter at the top left and you’ll get 6 videos explaining how to do just that.

So, what do you think about how Facebook works?

Many people ask me about Twitter tips to become more successful on Twitter.

They read reports from other marketeers who say they are highly successful on Twitter and they want to know how that can be achieved.

To be honest, let me first say, that I don’t use Twitter that much and certainly not as a marketing tool.

But it has been most helpful for me to directly contact my peers and get questions answered in return for my answers to their questions. Some of these concerned Joint Venture invitations, which increased my sales drastically.

For me, that’s the most important benefit of using Twitter. Whereas many use Twitter to send out one-way (sales) messages, I use this social networking site for the most part as a communication device.

To help you be more successful on the site, I give you 10 short Twitter tips to be successful.

Be Yourself
Don’t try to be someone else or to imitate someone. You followers will immediately recognize you as as being fake. You’ll rather want your true personality to appear.

Tweet Value
Make sure that everything you tweet is highly valuable for your followers. You should always try to either inform, entertain or educate your followers. Those are the best ways to add value to your tweets.

Tweet Frequently
This will allow you to be seen and it will also keep you in the forefront of people’s minds. Don’t tweet all day, instead tweet a couple of valuable messages shortly after each other.

Communicate with Your Followers
Don’t just talk at your followers. They’ll recognize that immediately. Instead discuss or give answers. Remember the WIIFM?

Therefore: Do NOT Sell
This will only turn your followers off. If one of them only tries to sell me, I usually unfollow.
Provide value instead and then occasionally include a link to a page on your site where they can get more info. That’s where you can sell to them.

Know Your Audience
Take some time to get to know your followers. Visit their sites or follow their links. Thus you’ll find out what they want and you may be able to help them achieve that. BIG plus!

Increase Your Followers
More followers means expanding your network and greater chances to be successful. Invite your readers to follow you on Twitter, like I do at the bottom of this post.

Be Nice
You don’t want to offend anyone with your Tweets. Don’t write anything you wouldn’t want your mother or your grandmother to read.

Don’t Complain
Always stay on the positive side tol keep you and your online business in a positive light.

Don’t SPAM
Never SPAM on Twitter. There’s no better way te become unpopular and get kicked off of the site than sending Spam. And it certainly won’t make you any money.

There you have your Twitter tips. Make sure you always follow them and you’ll see the results.

As an extra bonus, here’s my most important Twitter tip:

PLAN your time on Twitter to avoid spending too much time there. It can be very tempting to stay on Twitter all day, answering all kind of nice communications, but I guess you also have work to do. Schedule an hour a day to communicate and then close the site or software program you’re using.

As you may have learned from this article, I build my follower list slowly.
However, if you want to explode your followers base, increase their responsiveness and achieve top SEO rankings using Twitter, then check out this great Twitter resource.

After you’ve done that, post your comments below.
What are your Twitter tips?

In Social Media how to I wrote about achieving a return on investment using these websites.

It must have triggered Roger Rae to write this great guest post below about the limitations of this phenomena.

It’s a great warning for every Internet marketer not to make these mistakes.
Here goes.
Enjoy!

When Social Media is not good for your business

Every internet marketer and online business owner is talking about the usefulness of social media these days.

Some of them have even termed social media as the future of online marketing. Well they are partially correct.

Social media grew at the staggering rate in 2009 and continuously growing. According to a study on the impact of these kind of sites on the consumer behavior, more than 90% of buyers visit social media websites before buying anything and 50% of them take decisions under the influence of information they get from these websites.

So, does that mean that Social media is good for every business? Or, every kind of business can generate leads from these websites? Unfortunately, the answer is NO. Like every other technology, Social media has its own limitations too.

Here are the five situations when Social media is not good for your business.

Too Focused Niche
The most important thing to do to get successful in social media is to identify your target audience and then to develop relationship with them.
But if your niche is too focused and your product caters the needs of only a specific group of people then social media can’t help you a lot. Well you can still use these websites to increase the awareness about your products and brand but then your main objective should be sharing information and not generating sales.

Trying hard to sell
Social media is not a market where you can start selling your products and services moments after creating your account.
It’s a platform where you can develop relationships with your target audience. It’s a platform where you can listen what your target audience thinks about your products and your industry.
It’s a platform where you can listen what your audience wants and then create customized products tailored to their requirements.
So, if you are joining social media only to boast about your products and not for building relationships, then it’s not worth it.

Overcautious nature
Most of the social media users prefer transparency and openness. They use these websites because they can easily express their opinions here about anything and everything.
If you are the type of company that does not like transparency or where the person managing social accounts has to consult with upper management or legal department every time before sharing anything on social media websites. Then your business is not a good fit for social media.

Looking for quick results
Time and again, we see companies that create accounts on social media websites and then sit back and start waiting for leads and sales.
Sorry, Social media don’t work in this way.

Promoting anything on social media is a process which takes time and a lot of time. Consider social media like watering a plant. You’ve to water it for months to get fruits from it. If you want quick results then there is nothing for you in social media world.

Don’t have enough resources
Well, many companies think that social media is just about creating accounts on social networking sites which is WRONG. Like everywhere else, you need to have a social media strategy for promoting your business and enough resources to execute that strategy successfully. Social media should not be interpreted as Twitter or Facebook, it is what you can accomplish from these websites.

———
Case again.
So, what’s your opinion?
Post your comments on how to use social media below.

I just finished reading a new eBook about the basics of social media how to.

While Social Media are about being social, we, Internet marketers, always try to see the business side of such developments, don’t we?

Even better, we’re always looking for ways to monetize things, like Twitter and Facebook, right?

In a recent WebProNews publication “How Business Questions About Social Media Have Changed in a Year“, author Chris Crum shows how ROI replaces tactics as top social media concern.

The graphic in that same article also shows, that most business owners and would be entrepreneurs struggle to figure out how to use these media to their (business) advantage. They’re missing the elementary ‘social media how to’ knowledge.

Yet, it is possible to build a business using these media, even a new one.

That’s exactly what is discussed in The Business Of Social Media that I’ve just finished reading.

It explains the very first steps to building a profitable and long-lasting business using only social media and gives a blueprint to achieve just that.

If you’re a seasoned social media user, then this is not for you. But when you’re struggling to get the most out of these sites, or even don’t know how to get started, then you should get your copy of this social media how to Ebook.

It starts with the pure basics of social media. How to use them correctly.

And then continues with using this phenomena to build a huge list! The ‘right’ way.

How you do that is explained in The Six Basic Elements of List Building.

1. Research
2. Securing your Social Media presence
3. Start building a following on Twitter
4. Set up your auto-responder
5. Create your list builder product
6. Set up a squeeze page

The next chapters are about setting up your sales funnel, setting up your social media profiles and campaigns.

After starting your campaign, the eBook explains how you need to follow a consistent daily routine. By the way, being consistent is the key to social media success!

The information is brief (no filler, just 25 pages), but exactly to the point, easy to follow and valuable as a blueprint. Actually it answers all of the Top Ten Questions mentioned in the WebProNews publication mentioned above.

If you have no experience in using social media or you are just started or even doing this for a few months only, then this eBook is for you.
It will finally allow you to get a return of investment in social media.
That valuable information is available for a ridiculous price of only seven dollars.

I strongly suggest you get your copy right now.
Go here: The Business Of Social Media.

Just so you know: that’s an affiliate link.

As an addition to this great resource, you really should read A Way to Get Facebook Fans to Actually Buy.
That’s an interesting app and an even more interesting development, because it’s a great way to even further increase your readership on Facebook with buyers.

But it’s a more advanced tactic and before you can apply such tactics, you really should know and have implemented the basics the right way.

Hence my recommendation.
Get your copy of The Business Of Social Media now.

Let me know what you are doing with social media.

Generating traffic from YouTube is relatively easy, since it’s a very popular site which the search engines index very frequently.

YouTube is a community site for watching and sharing user made videos.

That’s because YouTube enables all members to easily upload and share video clips on their site and across the Internet through embedding these videos in websites, blogs, mobile devices and email.

Watching and sharing means YouTube, like many other social networks, serves multi purposes.

On the one hand you can get exposure for your videos, on the other hand you can watch what others think and look for popular topics and trends.
You can find plenty of topics at YouTube. Since it’s a Google company, their search capabilities are huge.

But today we’ll concentrate on generating traffic from YouTube.

In order to do that well and very efficiently, you’d better handle things right from the first time on. So here are 10 tips on how to get more traffic from YouTube.

Make the videos viral, and spread them to as many websites as possible.

Make sure the sound on your videos is clear and mixed and edited well so users can clearly hear it.

Embed your logo and website into the video somehow. You can do this with text at the end or beginning, or by including your logo or URL throughout the entire video.

Have goals for your YouTube videos, but remember that there are thousands of videos on the site, and some have millions of hits while others only have a couple hundred. Set realistic goals.

Keep content funny, engaging, and informative so viewers will watch it from beginning to end

Think about overall color schemes. Some videos may record in a yellow or red hue. This can affect viewer’s opinions subliminally, so try to keep the colors realistic.

Be yourself. Do not lose sight of the purpose and mission of the video. Be yourself and loosen up when speaking.

Remember that nothing is perfect in online videos unless you have a professional editor, so just have fun and keep the goal in mind.

Practice before posting the final video. Do a few dry runs before taping and publishing.

Create a series of ongoing videos or stories, so users will be hooked and want to learn more.

Do more than just talk. People don’t want to sit and watch a person just talking to the camera. Make it exciting and interesting as well as fun.

According to their own website, Yahoo Answers is a ‘knowledge-sharing community’.

The most remarkable element of Yahoo Answers is that the knowledge is compiled randomly.

If one of the members has a burning question she can post it on Yahoo Answers and wait for other members to come in and provide answers, no matter what topic.

That makes Yahoo Answers multi-usable, because you can ask questions about, for example, your new product before you build it and expect some interesting answers from potential buyers.

And of course you can browse the knowledge base for interesting answers on other questions and other topics you may have.

But we’re going to use this knowledge community to drive traffic to our sites.
You can achieve that by providing answers to questions on topics you consider yourself expert on and have your answer compete with others as being the best.

Because the best answer will get the most exposure inside the topic at hand and very good answers are occasionally featured on the Yahoo! Answers Blog. Which brings in even more website traffic!

In order to use Yahoo Answers to drive traffic to your site, here are 8 great tips.

Check your spelling and grammar before posting the answer. Mistakes in spelling can be embarrassing and people will question your answers when this happens.

If you don’t know the answer, do not pretend to. People can smell a liar a mile away, so answer honestly and only the things you know about.

Try not to sound as if you’re chatting. Instead, use concise, informative language that gives them a straight answer without all of the filler.

Do not answer politically motivated questions unless you’re promoting a political website. Otherwise, you could lose potential customers who disagree with your views.

You do not have to only link to your website; link to your Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, or other page as well, since it will also ultimately lead people back to your contact information and home page.

New answers to questions can be posted through RSS sign up, so use that for your questions and see what other people are saying. It’s a good way to see what the competition or other users are saying.

As things change, make sure your questions change as well. In other words, current events related or technology related questions might need some updating later on as new information emerges.

Although some answers require a link to other retailers or online stores, as a business it’s not a good idea to lead people to anywhere other than your website, or sites that relate to your business niche.

One of the best Twitter descriptions comes from their About page:

Twitter is a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices.

Now, you may agree with me that’s just a feature, but it perfectly leads to the very best Twitter benefits and thus unveils why this network is tremendously popular.

You see, Twitter is based on human psychology.

One of the founders, Jack Dorsey, was very interested in an application that would let him know what his friends were doing. He’s no exception, many people want to know that (hence the success of cell phones!). That desire lead to the development of Twitter.

Absolutely needless to say that this doesn’t apply to you or me, we’re just too smart to fall for such psychological trivialities , but in general, people:
1. are very curious and
2. want to belong to a community.

Twitter perfectly takes advantage of these natural needs. After you open an account, all they ask is only one question:

“What’s happening?”

Once you’ve answered that question, you’re sold. Especially since you only have 140 characters to send your messages, which for most people by far isn’t enough to get their message across. You want to send more.

And it makes the received ‘tweets’, as they are called, a bit mystic, like cliffhangers. You’re curious, you want to know more.

The downside is that this also leads to a lot of irrelevant information published on this micro blogging system, which on its turn is a big bummer for many other people. They quit.

But if you can filter that, or if you don’t mind the occasional garbage, Twitter can be a great traffic resource.

Therefore I’ve listed six of the best Twitter traffic tips below. Make sure you use them well and don’t forget to download the other 40 tips at the bottom.

Network with noteworthy business associates, competitors, and peers.
You don’t have to simply befriend every person you can that requests you or vice versa on Twitter. Instead, choose your networking buddies carefully. Look for fellow executives or business owners who work within your particular niche. Then, follow their progress, look for advice, and of course, throw in some of your own two cents as well.
By befriending people who are in the same line of work as you, you’ll get an insider’s look at how their successes compare to yours.

Update your audience fairly regularly, but don’t over load them.
A lot of people are most likely interested in what you have to say, otherwise they probably wouldn’t have added you to begin with. This means you should be updating them on a fairly regular basis so they can keep up with what’s happening in your world or your business’ world.

On the other hand, you don’t want to overload people so much that the feel of your Twitter site feels “spammy” and they turn away.
Try to maintain the balance between good updating and overwhelming people with insignificant updates.

Keep an eye on what people are saying.
Don’t forget that Twitter, like any other virtual conversation, is a two-way street. Pay attention to what other members are saying, and see if they’re Twittering about you. If they are, you might want to use that as an opportunity to either thank them for a nice compliment, or to make good if they are posting a complaint.

Remember that you’re never 100% safe from someone who might try to talk negatively about you, your website, or anything else on Twitter. Be sure to use this to your advantage in a diplomatic way.

Find a cool template that says who you are as company.
Twitter now allows users to customize the look of their home page. Use something individual and creative as your Twitter page. This can be the same graphics you use on your website, a company logo, or something you’ve customized just for Twitter.
No matter what it is, make sure it’s appealing to the eyes and does not look too ‘busy’.

Ask for feedback. Don’t just tell everyone what you’re doing via Twitter, try to ask everyone for their opinion or feedback. It’s a good way to start a dialogue and open up a forum for new suggestions and changes that can be made.

Stumble Upon is a Web2.0 community site that allows its users to discover and/or submit and rate Web pages, photos, and videos.

Stumble Upon lets you, simply by clicking a “Stumble” button in their toolbar, surf random sites by topic, recommended by your friends who ‘tag’ their favorite sites.
The latter makes StumbleUpon a social bookmark site.

When you Stumble, you will only see pages recommended by friends and like-minded stumblers. Thus you can find great content quite different from using search engines.

Using Stumble Upon can deliver a great deal of web traffic, provided you use this site well.
Therefore I’ve listed 8 traffic tactics below.

Make sure your website is up to par. Since people will be “stumbling upon” your site, you want to make sure it looks good as soon as they click on the link.

Just like Twitter, StumbleUpon is a social networking website, so be sure to get as many contacts and networking friends as possible.

Complete your profile as thoroughly as possible before linking. This way, when people click on your information, they get an idea of who you are or who your business is.

Make sure you comment on other peoples’ pages and review them as well. This shows you’re an active user who cares about what others are saying.

Tag the most essential elements. Stumble Upon uses tags, which are a lot like keywords. Be sure to tag your site using the most effective, power packing tags possible. Try to pick nouns and use ones that will pique peoples’ interest immediately. While you must use one topic on the site, you can use multiple tags and change them up as needed.

Decide right away that you’re going to be an important part of the Stumble Upon web community, and then stick with it. Feeble posters or people who are fly by night are easy to detect, and most people will stay away from that.

Think about your target audience. Then, create customized content just for them. By putting information out there that caters to your audience and your customer base, you will get solid followers who should turn into sales or referrals.

Make sure the people who stumble end up being regular visitors or customers. You can do this by adding an RSS button at the bottom of our page, an email subscription link, or any other method that will bring interested people in even closer.

There you have it. Eight quick tips for Stumble Upon traffic.
