I’m using Google Adsense for a while now on this blog and I never had any issues with them.

However, occasionally there seem to be some strange things going on. Laura Backes, a freelance writer for DSL Service Providers reports 5 of them in today’s guest post.

This article may be a bit controversial, on the other hand, issues must be addressed when noticed.

So, here comes Laura.
Enjoy!

We all know that Google AdSense has some strange peculiarities, but they seem to have hit an all-time high this year. With issues ranging from racial discrimination to gambling ads, AdSense is in the center of controversy. As a sample, here are five strange things AdSense has done (or been accused of doing) in 2011.

Racism – Nathan Newman of Tech Progress conducted an unofficial study and found that Google AdSense was guilty of delivering targeted ads to users based on race by analyzing their names, surnames, class and geographical location. Google denies the claim.

“[The research] relies on flawed methodology to draw a wildly inaccurate conclusion,” Rob Shilkin, a representative with Google told Colorlines.com in a statement. “If Mr. Newman had contacted us before publishing it, we would have told him the facts: we do not select ads based on sensitive information, including ethnic inferences from names.”

Newman stands behind his research.

“I would note that searches using the name “Juan Martinez” repeatedly brought up an ad for “Juan Navarro – www.exxelgroup.com – President and CEO of the Exxel Group” and that ad was served up ONLY for ones having Juan Martinez in the subject line.
Whatever the sample size of my investigation, the probabilities of such a result are essentially zero without the ads being tied to the name. So clearly, some ads are being served up based on the name and the name alone.”

Gambling – Google Adsense will start showing gambling ads on websites starting September 27, 2011, but many people will never see them. The ads will only show up for people visiting the websites from a country where online gambling is legal. In other words, don’t expect to see them any time soon in the United States.

In a twist of fate, sites that allow gambling are not allowed to show AdSense ads. Okay, then, Google.

Procrastinating – Google is going to be retiring the old AdSense interface in November of 2011, replacing it with the “new” interface. The new interface first began rolling in November 2009, and has been rolling ever since.
Currently everyone can access the “new” interface but they have not been forced to switch yet; at least not until November. Two years? Really?

Exchanging – Google has mixed up the exchange rate for the Canadian to US dollar, leading to publishers getting paid less than they should have.
This is not the first time Canadians had this issue, they also had this issue in 2008 and Google fixed it for them. Really, this isn’t too uncommon. This happened with the Indian rupee, Australian dollar and others. Dyslexia strikes Google with some frequency, it appears.

Self-promoting – Google+ goes to ads. Google AdSense ads will now sport the +1 of Google+, thus adding to the miasma of advertisement. Even mobile consumers are not free of the AdSense plea bargain.
In any case, AdSense for Google+‘s proposition is this: with a click, users will be able to approve particular ads and make them more likely to appear to their social connections. Liking ads. What a concept.

There you have it. Just five ways that Google AdSense is being strange in 2011. So, what do you think? Is Google racist? Should gambling ads be allowed? How long is too long to update? Shouldn’t there be someone double checking exchange rates? It seems kind of important. And what about voting for ads? Will you use it? Or should Google give it up? Tell us what you think.

Making money from Google Adsense is one of the easiest ways to make money online.

That’s why lots of people just set up a website, add Adsense to it and wait for the dough to pour in.

Well here’s a surprise: monetizing your site using Google Adsense isn’t THAT easy.

In today’s guest post, Deborah Dera from Write on the Edge gives some very important tips to maximize earning potential from Adsense.

Read them carefully and enjoy!

Making money from Google Adsense is an extremely popular way for webmasters to monetize their site.

However, monetizing AdSense ads is a trial and error process.

There are no hard and fast rules that apply to every website, but there are important tips to keep in mind that can help you figure out how to maximize your website’s earning potential.

What is a Good Ad Size?
Wider ads are easier to read than longer ads.
The 336×280 large rectangle and 300×250 medium rectangle ad sizes work well because people can read a couple lines of text at a time.

With narrower ads, visitors can only read a few words at a time before they have to go to the next line. The interruption is distracting.

However, whatever size ad(s) you pick should compliment your website’s design.
A wide ad that cuts into your content too much may be distracting.
A 160×600 skyscraper ad running down the left or right sidebar works also well when used in conjunction with other ads.
A decent advertisement size that is visible without taking away from the design of your page will have a greater affect on your ability to making money from Google AdSense.

Where Should Ads Go?
Optimal ad placement varies depending on the type of website you have.
Visitors primarily focus on the website’s main content and navigational menu so ads near these areas typically perform very well.

Ideally, your ads should appear high enough on your website that people see them before they have to scroll down.
Although, if your website has an article or blog post that people are interested in reading, people may skip ads at the top of the page. In these cases, it is best to put you ads below your content so that people see them when they are done reading and thinking about what to do next.
People naturally read from left to right, so ads on the left side of a page attract more attention.

What Colors Should I Use?
It is never a good idea to try to hide your AdSense ads by picking colors that make them look like part of your content.
You want your AdSense ads to stand out enough that visitors notice them, but not so much that they clash with your website’s design.

A good rule of thumb is to pick colors that work well with your existing color scheme. You can use colors that your website already uses and switch them around, such as using a white background with black text ad on a page with a black background and white text.
Another method of choosing colors is to look at a color compliment chart and pick different colors that compliment your website’s color scheme such as ads with an orange background on a blue page.

Even the most experienced web designers often experiment with different AdSense sizes, placement and color palettes before they figure out the most effective combination for making money with Google Adsense.

The key to success is persistence. Take the tips here and try implementing various combinations on your website, monitor your click-thru rate on a weekly basis and it will be easier to find the most profitable AdSense layout for your website.

The vast majority of Internet marketers fail to do just that, so you’re not alone here.
Let’s try to fix the problem.

There can be many reasons why you’re not making a profit, but some are very common.

Daniel Offer of Facebook chat emoticons, knows a few major reasons and sums them up in today’s guest post.

I’ll let Daniel do the talking.
Here goes.
Enjoy.

5 Reasons Why You’re Failing to Produce a Profit Online

Earning a nice profit online is a dream many people hold dear to their heart.

Despite what many people think, making money online is possible due to the vast amount of opportunities currently available. While it is indeed possible to earn a nice income online, most people who attempt the feat will fail.

Whether you’re interested in making money online today, tomorrow or five years down the road, knowing a few reasons why people fail to produce a real profit online will help prevent you from making the same mistakes.

You’re Spreading Yourself too Thin

Taking on a multiple amount of projects at once may seem like a good idea at the time, yet it’s really not as you’ll end up spreading yourself too thin and as a result fail to produce a nice, sizable profit.

Let’s face it, if you’re like the majority of people looking to make money online you’ve probably got many different projects lined up, waiting for your attention.
If you really want to make real money online, you’re going to have to learn how to successfully split your time between your projects. Practicing proper time management skills and knowing how many projects you can personally tackle or successfully handle at a time is key in determining how much money you make online.

You Don’t Know When to Give Up On a Project and Move On

When trying to make money online, you’ll sometimes come up against a project or idea that seems great, but really isn’t worth your time, energy or consideration.

If you’ve given hours upon hours of your time and energy to a project and it’s not making you a viable income, you may need to just give the project up and move on to greener, more profitable pastures.

Knowing when to throw your towel in and pursue a different project is a must if you’re truly interested in making real money online.

You’re Not Passionate About Making Money Online

Sure, making money online can be difficult at times, yet if you’re passionate enough about your project(s) and vision you should have no problem earning money online.

If you’re not passionate about making money online, how do you think you’re going to produce a nice profit online?

If you find that you’re not passionate about the way your making money online, you might as well throw in the towel now and give up. Earning a real profit online takes determination, skill and above all passion.

You’re Not Really Dedicated to Making Money Online

If your not dedicated enough to make money online, odds are you’re not going to make a real profit online.

To successfully make money online you’re going to have to have a burning desire to succeed. You have to be dedicated even when you don’t feel like being dedicated.

If you’re the type of person that gives up at the first setback or sign of trouble, then it’s going to be extremely difficult for you to make any money online.

You Don’t Know Where to Start

Many people will try and make money online, yet the majority will fail because they won’t take the time to research the many ways to make money online beforehand.

Diving into a project quickly and without caution, without researching or becoming knowledgeable about the project beforehand, is a surefire way to fail and not make any real money online as a result.

If you really want to make money online, you’re going to have to research the many opportunities available and become knowledgeable about what’s required to make that business or project a booming success.

Daniel Offer leads a Facebook chat emoticons project entitled Emoinstaller. Emoinstaller is a software product that enables users to add Facebook emoticons easily to their Facebook account. Users have access to over 900 Facebook smileys once Emoinstaller is installed.

So far 5 reasons why you can’t make money online.
What’s your take?

CPA networks are a great alternative for affiliate programs and Adsense driven income sites.

CPA stands for Cost Per Action. Which means that these networks pay you for the desired action your visitor makes on your CPA offer page.

For many that’s a lot easier than making the sale to receive a commission. That’s why CPA offers are so popular these days.

Since there’s a huge variety in CPA networks and the programs they offer, lots of people though have troubles finding the right CPA network.

Deborah Dera knows how to choose the right CPA Network.
Hence this guest post. I’ll let her do the talking.
Enjoy!

———–

In the world of Internet marketing, the acronym CPA does not stand for “certified public accountant.”
A CPA network, or Cost Per Action network, is one in which you work to generate leads for a company.

You don’t earn commissions for making sales, but earn a guaranteed income for simply generating leads and sending business to a particular website.
CPA networks often contract with a wide variety of business, across numerous niches, making it easy for you to find a network with products you’re actually interested in promoting.

The problem? There are dozens of CPA networks to choose from and deciding which to go with can be difficult. Here are some things to consider.

Talk to Other Marketers
The best way to find out which CPA networks are best is by simply talking to other marketers.
Join a group like the Warrior Forum or continue to read blogs like this one. If you ask, most marketers will tell you about their experiences – both good and bad.
Look for responses from internet marketers you respect and trust. Their input will prove invaluable.

Search the Web
Use your favorite search engine to do a quick search for CPA networks.
Make a short list of the most popular and then do some research. Visit each site to learn about their terms and payout amounts and then do some additional searches on the web to read about the experiences others have had with the networks on your list.

People who are happy (and those who are unhappy) tend to write blog posts and articles about the networks they deal with and many do so without being prompted. You’ll learn quite a bit from the articles others write about their experiences.

Call the CPA Network
The CPA networks you are considering will ask you a ton of questions about your online marketing experiences before allowing you to work with them.
That does not mean you shouldn’t ask them some questions as well. Find out who you would be working with, ask about his experience within the industry, and ask about the type of support you’ll be getting from the company as you work to send them business.
Use your gut instincts and don’t spend too much time with any company you aren’t comfortable dealing with.

The number of CPA networks you have to choose from is staggering. Some offer easy approvals and others take more time. At the end of the day, though, you’re the one bringing them business. Make sure you end up with a reputable company that has earned respect within the industry.

Deborah Dera is a full-time freelance writer specializing in personal finance, bankruptcy, bad credit loans, health, fitness, blogging, writing, and more. She is the founder of Write on the Edge and offers unique content creation solutions to businesses looking to enhance their online brands.

———–

So, what do you think?
Which CPA Networks do you use?
Post your comments below.

You undoubtedly know these “make money online” ads promising to learn you how to make thousands of dollars a minute, working from the comfort of your own home in your pyjama, right?

You see these ads so preposterously often that they may even start to make you doubt whether it really IS possible to make money online.

The question is how do they do that? You may not even make a thousand dollars a month, let alone per minute!

Well, the answer to this question may very well be: they don’t! That claim may be a a shade exaggerated. Bad luck!

But…

working from your own home there are certainly ways you can make an extra $100 a day. Which makes a nice $2,000 a month.

Even more is possible, but let’s not magnify the claims here, ok?

There are many ways to make at least $100 dollars a day. In fact, I’ve just finished reading a great report sharing 77 different ways you can create a nice online income.

It’s written by my friend Dennis Becker, who is known on the Net as a down to earth guy. Which he actually is, as I will show below!

Now, 77 are a lot of ways to make money online. You probably won’t like them all, but there should be at least 10 that you definitely can do.

Some of them require more work than others, but remember that you can mix and match. If you’re only able to get 2 of them going, then your monthly income will grow to a nice $4,000!
Most important thing is to have fun doing whatever you enjoy.

For each of the 77 ways to make money online, Dennis lists an overview and then fleshes them out a bit so you can start right away using some of them. He even tries to give you an estimate of how much you can expect to make for each plan.

As Dennis also explains, you need 4 things in order to reach your goals.

.

First you need the goal, showing that you’re really interested in making money online or at least an extra $100 a day.

Then you need a plan. Included in the report are 77 concise mini plans, just enough to give you an idea so that you can decide if they’re for you or not.

Next, you need knowledge. A lot of of the plans are pretty easy, but some of them require special skills, like for example Photoshop or HTML skills, or the ability to install a WordPress blog. All these skills can be learned, but that’s NOT covered inside the report.

The most important part: you need to take action. There’s no way you’re going to make money online without performing consistent tasks to do whatever it takes to get there. Yes, that means… Work!

If you are really serious about making money online you should get this report. There’s no limit to what you can earn using these plans, but let’s be conservative: a nice extra monthly income is absolutely achievable.

Get your own copy of this excellent make money online (Link deleted; offer was closed) report.

And don’t forget to post your comments below.

Starting your own internet business is not as difficult as you may believe.

That’s what today’s guest writers Lena Morrish & Dima Nikolayenko, owners of InternetBusinessBTS.com, tell us.

While building a serious Internet business is NOT easy, as Welly Mulia already wrote, there are plenty of solutions for the serious entrepreneur who wants to start his or her own internet business.

Here’s the opinion of Lena and Dima.
Enjoy!

—————-

Starting An Internet Based Business Is Not As Difficult As You May Believe

Working from home is a great option as it saves us plenty of hassles. No commute, work when you need to or want too, plenty of time for the family and you can work in your pajamas!
And if this work-at-home option happens to be your own internet business then there are no bosses to answer to.

All this sounds great but what about the expenses of starting an internet based business? Technical details? Computer skills? Internet expertise? You don’t need any of these. All you require is a computer with an internet connection and an idea or product or service that will sell. You can set up and start your own internet business without much money time or efforts.

Once you are ready with your website, you will need to get it online so that the world can see it. This is done with a process called “web hosting”. A computer known as server runs 24/7 and is always connected to the internet. This computer acts as you host it “hosts” your web page, and helps to bring the world to your business.

A competent web hosting company will post your page on the net and keep it there with rare if any blackouts. They will take care of the technical stuff for you, all this for a monthly fee.

A monthly fee will rid you of a lot of work and save you time too. Naturally you need to look for a web host that is not too expensive or else it will not be worth it. You can easily locate an inexpensive web host that will be able to provide you the features you need and not cost a bomb too.

The inexpensive hosts no doubt can’t provide you with premium service but there are a few features that you can’t do without. The web hosting company should be reliable, a decent customer support system and most important your website should be available always.

The next thing is that you should be able to update and change the content of your web pages, whenever you want to. All the links that you put in there should work properly. The interactive features (mainstay of a business) should work effectively.

Another important aspect of an online business is that you should be able to respond to queries within reasonable time. Online business runs 24/7 and it’s not possible for you to be present every time a query comes in. You need a good auto responder that will take care of immediate response.

The automatic responder will reply to each and every query with short but polite answers that you may have added to the library. The next time you log on, you can send personalized replies and solutions to the queries. This will ensure that your customer feels acknowledged and knows that he is valued.

With the right inexpensive web host and an automatic responder you are all set to start off your own online business from home.

—————-

If you create a page or a post and concentrate on just one keyword, Adsense will try to publish ads that are directly related to that keyword (or key phrase).

To help Adsense detect what keyword you’re talking about, you therefore should have them
- in the title of a post,
- in the H1 heading and
- a couple of times in the text, preferably close at the top, in the middle and near the bottom of your content.

Emphasizing one keyword occurrence by making it bold or italic may be very helpful too.

So far, these are usual and common practices to help Adsense decide the main keywords it should publish ads for. But there’s more! Read on.

Of course, to get the most out of your Adsense income, you must first find the best Google Adsense ads.
But once you’ve found them, you must also put full emphasis on keywords you’ve selected. And that’s exactly what Google Adsense allows you to do using…

Section Targeting
This feature allows you to enhance your ads results. In their Adsense Help department, Google explains this as follows:

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like us to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content. By providing us with your suggestions, you can assist us in improving your ad targeting. We recommend that only those familiar with HTML attempt to implement section targeting.

Positive Section Targeting
Basically there are two ways to tell Adsense what to look for: the part you consider important and the part of your page you consider irrelevant.

To tell Adsense about the important part of your content, just add this line of HTML comment to your content:

<!–google_ad_section_start—>

and end that section with this line:

<!–google_ad_section_end—>

If you’re showing Adsense ads on each post, I would suggest placing the first line above the post heading. Look for a line in single.php or index.php that starts with:

<?php if (have_posts()

and place the google_ad_section_start just below that line, because the next line will show your post headers.

Placing the ‘end’ tag strongly depends on your blog content. I prefer to place it before my comment section, but you may decide to put it below that or even somewhere else. Test which placement does well for your blog.

Downplay Keyword Adsense Targeting
Equally, you can show Adsense which parts of your site are irrelevant for keywords by adding this HTML comment to your template file:

<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>

and end that section again with

<!–google_ad_section_end—>

Again, where you put these HTML statements is up to you, but I use it at the start of my sidebar and end at the bottom of the source code of each post (at the end of the footer), because that’s the part of my pages that isn’t interesting when it comes to search engine optimization or keywords.

Read more about optimizing keywords for Adsense at:

There’s a new Clickbank Adsense plugin available for WordPress.

It shows recommended Clickbank products, closely related to the keywords of your blog posts. And the links carry your Clickbank ID.

There are many ways to monetize your blog.
If you have thousands and thousands of readers, selling ads is a great solution.

But for many, many others, one of the best ways to generate money from your blog is affiliate marketing. If you write valuable posts, you’ll probably get the highest clicks.

That is, IF you use some form of contextual advertising. Which means you have to closely relate your promotions to the content of your posts.
Therefore your posts should contain solid and usable content in addition to the soft, integrated sales pitch. Write as if you were talking to a friend so that it doesn’t come across as too sales-y.

Adsense comes to mind as one of the most simple solutions. But unless your Google Adsense income rocks, chances are you probably earn cents per click (I found the appropriate text Google Adcents somewhere).

Promoting Clickbank products is another easy way, only…
…how do you find products suitable in your blog posts?

Thanks to the Clickbank Adsense plugin that problem is solved, so you can now utilize Clickbank, one of the biggest affiliate networks on the Internet.

This plugin will use your post tags as keywords to display targeted affiliate products from the Clickbank marketplace.
You also have total control how the ads will show on your blog and how many of them. And you can custom color code the ads to make them blend in with your blog design.

If you don’t use tags in one or more of your posts, the plugin will use a predefined keywords list. You can create this list inside the plugin settings tab of your WordPress admin panel.

You will need WordPress 2.7 or newer to install this Clickbank plugin on your server. The plugin won’t work on blogs hosted by WordPress.com. You need a self hosted blog.

This is important: your blog is your castle. YOU get to decide which content to put on it and YOU get to keep your ad revenue.
That’s why it’s more effective to promote affiliate products on your blog rather than any other form of monetization. Affiliate commissions have a much higher payout!

By the way, this Clickbank Adsense plugin has an affiliate program, so you’ll be able to recoup your investment with just two sales. I’m using my affiliate link in this post!

Check it out. You should be able to make some money with this plugin.
Let me know what you think.
Post your comments below.

So, when Bryan Supe, an EzineArticles.com Expert Author, contacted me, suggesting to include a guest post from him that would benefit my readers, I read it immediately.

I think his contribution will be very useful for a lot of bloggers, so that’s what you can read below. I’ll let Bryan do the talking.
Enjoy!

—

This is a common problem among millions of bloggers. Some people don’t mind though because they are not trying to make money from their blog. It is those that are trying to make money online that get frustrated. In order to make money from a blog you need traffic.

1. Make a quality post to your blog every day.
Why would people keep visiting a blog if nothing ever changes and there is no new information on it? They wouldn’t.

2. Join in conversation on other blogs.
Leave useful comments and link back to your blog. Of course, do this in a category that is related to your blog.

3. Let your readers post comments on your posts.
Not only will this create more traffic but you will learn about your writing and what your readers are looking for. If you give your readers what they want they will keep coming back to your blog for a long time.

4. Find forums that are related to your blog topic.
Make a link in your signature file that points back to your blog. Give something away to people who visit your blog. This will make people more willing to click on your blog link.

5. Submit articles about your blog.
Article marketing is very effective. In the resource box of your article include a link back to your blog. The more articles you write the more traffic you will get.

The best thing you can do is have a plan.
For example, comment on 5 blogs per day. Write 10 articles per day. Participate and make 5 posts in forums each day. That should take you about 1-2 hours per day and will get you some very good traffic.

Here is my favorite tip:

6. Capture email addresses.
Here is why this will get you more traffic. Once you have someones email address you can have pre written autoresponder messages loaded. Now that you have their information you can email them anytime you want.

I know that when I send an email to my list I get at least 500 clicks or more because people are interested in what I have to say. It doesn’t take long to start building a list and if you are not then you are missing out on huge traffic and money.

If you do nothing else then at least start building a list of subscribers. No matter what your niche is, it is very profitable to have a list of people who show an interested in what you are selling.

I’ve just finished reading Cash Cow Workshops, written by David Preston. It’s a set of pdf files that shows you how to generate a full time income, conducting workshops for local business owners.

This product was created as a result of a highly popular post in the Warrior forum that I’ve talked about before in Free Products And Opportunities.

Cash Cow Workshops is an outstanding product.
These workshops will generate money, but their main goal is to pick up web development clients on the back-end. And the main factor of that development will be as simple as list building.

While reading the modules, I found this a very do-able way to set up a huge business. Even in difficult times like now, because it will save local business owners advertising money and bring them more profits. HUGE benefits to promote your business.

Don’t let speaking in public scare you, because David has that problem covered too by just outsourcing the workshops that you put together.

The goal of these workshops is to honestly tell business owners how to run their online business more effectively. You may be surprised how easy this will be.

Apart from the introduction, there are 7 modules that discuss how to conduct these workshops. They are really easy to read and follow. They don’t give an exact step-by-step instruction, but discuss the main key components which is more than enough to get you going. Here’s what they’re about:

Selecting your location for the workshops

How to setup the workshops

Workshop content

The hidden closing technique that works every time

The initial meeting with the business owner

Setting up your own outsourcing network

Increasing your volume through demand

As I wrote above, this product shows you exactly what you need to do in order to start cashing in on your local business market. It gives you all the guidance and swift kicks you need to capitalize on this incredible market.
Local businesses are really struggling today. Through this course you’ll learn how to help them cut their expenses, increase their profits and pay you well in the process.

I think the main problem applying all this information is to convince yourself that it really is that easy and that YOU are the expert in this matter. You’re clients aren’t, in fact they just don’t know how to do business online. All they do is put out a billboard on the Net. They just don’t have time to learn how to do this properly and then apply all the information. They rather spend their advertising budget on you if you can show them how to use it effectively. And you can!

Check out Cash Cow Workshops. You won’t be disappointed.
Let me know what you think of it.
