My first website was for an online game I was playing years ago. It never really took off and over time I became bored of it.

My first website was a strategy page for Command and Conquer Red Alert. I was at one point considered one of the best players in the country (I have some cool t-shirts I won as proof) and was even #1 on the "ladder" at one point.

I thought hey, why not share my strategies with the public. I didn't do it for money as I had no idea how to monetize a website at the time. But I saw some decent traffic and my guides were pretty popular in some circles.

Your post is indeed very informative. These days not only amateur webmasters are doing internet marketing but also young grad students are promoting their less professional sites as their practice and projects. Articles on starting an internet marketing business are available on the internet easily.

Pretty interesting. I just started my first blog. I'm not sure which direction it's going to go yet, but reading your story gives me some ideas. That web archive thing is pretty sweet too. The internet sure has come along way.

My first website was abou 10 years ago when I started my degree in coputing. The site was actually for myself as I wanted to advertrise my web design skills. Ofcourse it was tacky and horrible by todays standards. Although I do not have a copy of it now I remember exactly how it looked.

Cool idea! I'll definitely join in this blog "meme" and post my mine too - I think it's still in the wayback machine.

Done:
http://www.netpreneurnow.com/wordpress/2008/12/20/my-first-time/

First ever website was actually at Geocities, and very much a fan site for scifi/fantasy types. First "marketing" site? Not so clever... pushing early MLMs and Affiliate programs like SFI and the like.

Glad I know better now!

My very first venture online was through MSN Groups and the group at http://groups.msn.com/britishgenealogy is still going strong all these years later. Having said that MSN are about to close their groups which is why we have recently migrated to http://www.genmates.net

Fascinating to see the sites and places that people started from.

Take care
