The SEO slug in theory should work, but I do not know of anyone that have tested it and found significant improvements. The theory is the less dilution surrounding your keywords in a header places more importance on those keywords. I also use robots meta plugin, which gives you a bit more control over pages to be indexed and followed. Also redirection which is useful for managing 301 redirects from within wordpress.
