Everyone hates spam. I do hate it flooding my blogs. I find it not so hard to detect which comments are spam though. Wish there are some effective ways to control it.

>> NO, it’s not!
It’s the interaction you can achieve with your readers that’s the bottom line. Blogging is about building a community with true relationships, not about volume.

And that is the point! I think the profit is bigger - use the chance to communicate with your visitors, let them get your friends and profit by that (in which way ever: knowhow, monetize, marketing, relationship)

Frankly I hate this too. I wonder that, do they understand what 'comment' means. They will just do comment in such way "Yeah! you're right!" or "Yeah! I agree with you!" which in they think it won't be called as irrelevant. But they never understand that their 'comments' never be a true meaningful comment..

Confession time: I did come here primarily to get some link juice but I am finding useful content on your blog and hopefully leaving some constructive comments & feedback. It is indeed very difficult to judge and there is no black & white.....the reality is more like gray.

Andy Beard, well i don't agree with anything he has to say.

If someone is taking the time out of there day to post a few lines, why not accept it?

Take this post for example. There are already another 50 or so posts from others. So the link juice of one comment and text link on this page is pretty much useless.

I think you and Andy Beard need to use common sense when deciding what comments to approve or not. Personally i approve 97% of comments, with those obvious 3% being a couple of word spam comments being declined.

Have a nice day!

Well my long comment just got earsed because of the math captcha not working in firefox (again - it rarely works).

So to summarize without retyping it all... we get lots of spam as well - and we use wpspamfree to block most of the automated stuff. Then we approve all the rest that askimet catches if people use a name and wrote a comment. We don't allow people to use keywords, so we do lose a lot of comments every day from people who didn't read the comment policy.

I'll have to look into SK2 if it has those blacklists.

Commenting on Dofollow Blogs is like a manna, a gift from the blogging gods to those who might be needing some link building. This is something that we must not abuse or take for granted, by making spam comments. In my case, I comment only when the topic interests me and I try my best to make my comment as sensible and relevant as positive. The link love (or love link?) is a bonus.

>>My feelings are (and it is what I would do) answer NO and YES.

Yes, you're right.
But then he would sign his comment with Matt Cutts and not Drabdesign.

Big difference!

Matter of name branding, recognition, expertise and authority!

EDIT: Poster DrabDesign sent me an email.
His name is David and he said he didn't meant to be offensive.
It wasn't. At all.
I just wanted to make clear WHY I would leave Matt's comment in there.

One question regarding what to leave and what to delete is:

1) If the content of the comment was as stated earlier, something like "Great Post", would you leave it in?

2) If however that comment came from someone who is renowned around the web, like Matt Cutts, would you leave it in?

My feelings are (and it is what I would do) answer NO and YES.

That said, it is a great post, now am I spamming or adding content?

EDIT:
