Web Hosting and Domain Names

Many beginners ask me what web hosting service I use and where I register my domain names.
Lots of them are on a low budget, so they’re also asking where to get both for free.
Here’s what I generally answer.

The best site you can use is your own site.
All it takes is a domain name registration (I use 000domains.com at $15 a year, but there are cheaper ones like the one of my friend Willie Crawford at http://williecrawford.com/domains/
He charges $9 a year.
And there are others, like namecheap.com (haven’t used that one personally).
I do not recommend GoDaddy, since they tend to completely close you down in case of a spam complaint, even it that’s a false claim.

Since search engines seem to take the registration period into account, it would be wise to sign up for 2 years.

Hosting is cheap these days. At http://www.vonetwork.com/shared.htm
you can have a website hosted for only $12 a year!
As for a free host, I’ve heard good recommendations for http://www.doteasy.com/
but I’ve personally never used them.

Although many hosting sites give you support, nothing can beat Host4Profit. A bit more expensive, but very, very reliable. It’s part of the Warrior network, so besides a top-notch hosting service, you also get access to the Warrior Master Mind group.

As for a blog: Wordpress is very easy to install (and most hosts have an automatic installation feature in their Control Panel), widely spread, so there are many extra options (plugins) available and search engines like their posts and index them fast.

There’s one other service that you definitely need: an email follow up service, commonly referred to as an autoresponder. If you go with a free service, you’re risking to lose everything as they are not reliable and you can’t import the leads from there to a professional service.
I do highly recommend Aweber, simply because they seem to have the highest delivery rates (and that’s one of the most important features), but Getresponse or Email Aces are good alternatives.
A service like that will cost you about $15 to $20 a month, but there’s NO way around it.
Make a good start. Use them.
