Google just released a new service called Google Trends.
Using this service you can enter up to five searchterms to see how often they’ve been searched for on Google over time. The search volumes are displayed as line graphs, but they do not give exact numbers. That’s probably because, according to Google ” Google Trends analyzes a portion of Google web searches …”.
Also Google Trends only works for broad searchterms and graph spikes are related and labeled to news issues.
The tool also shows top cities, regions, and languages that queries occurred in. When I entered ‘internet marketing’, the top city that came up was Jakarta, Indonesia. Google Trends calculates the portion of searches for your term coming from each city, relative to all Google searches coming from the same city. Seems there’s a lot going on in Jakarta. Trima kassi!
Comparison between searchterms can be done using several syntaxes and you can restrict your results to a particular time frame or region.
So, what’s the value of this new service?
Maybe it’s a great tool for Adwords and Adsense users, but you need to realize that this service is new or as Google says it: “Google Trends is a Google Labs product, which means that it’s still in an early stage of development. ”
