Will email marketing improve in Europe?

The European anti-spam laws are very strict, yet still weakly enforced because many countries have low priorities to transform European rules into national law.

So, implementation and enforcement will be slow.
However,…..

The Dutch Independent Postal and Telecommunications Authority (OPTA) has fined several individuals and small businesses for sending unsolicited email and sms-messages.

OPTA only enforces EU-law for spam originating from The Netherlands.

Fines were as high as 42,500 Euros (1 Euro = 1.35 US$) for unsolicited email and 20,000 Euros for sending unwanted SMS-messages.
During two raids data and equipment was confiscated. Another 14 warnings have been issued to spammers.

Wow!

Looks like the quality of email-marketing will improve soon.
